The walk started in fairly open woodland with a rocky base but quickly moved in between the red and orange coloured gorge walls and moderately dense rainforest, lined with Livistonia Palms.
Slowly but surely the walk became more challenging and interesting. There was lots of rock hopping and creek crossings before we got to the halfway point which is appropriately named Halfway Pool.
From here the walk became more and more challenging, we had to either swim to the right of the big boulder or haul ourselves and our gear over the rocks to the left, we ended up choosing the left. It was a bit of an effort getting both the girls up over the rock, they both ended up marooned on the rocklike beached whales on their stomachs but in the end they got clear and we were able to continue on.
This is a waterfall we had to scale, Trent is leading the way.
After about 1.15 hours of walking we ended up here, at the top of El Questro Gorge. It was a magic spot that we had all to ourselves for about 15 minutes. This photo just doesn't do this place justice.
This was probably the best gorge walk we have ever been on, it was challenging, spectacular and rewarding, a must do if you visit El Questro.
On the way out we came across a young fella that was bogged in his Nissan Navara, after a bit of shovelling, some air pressure facts and a bit of a push, I had him on his way. I don't know how he could have got bogged in the particular spot he was in, it was pretty compacted after the tour buses going in.
For sunset we headed up to Saddleback Lookout, what a great view and after the sun spent down we were joined by a shirt eared rock wallaby. Clare enjoyed a white wine and I enjoyed a beer, the kids a soft drink, while the sunset in the distance.
WOW this place is amazing, we may have to stay another couple of weeks, just to see it all.
